What *can* you do with matted cornsilky hair?

(left) You can "French Pony" it, where more hair from each side is put into each successive ponytail holder.
(middle and right) You can "Up and Down" it where the outside hair is put into a ponytail holder and the rest is left down. The girl on the extreme right had a serious matting problem which resulted in a serious haircut!

(left) You can make teeny-tiny double ponies - the center part on this Kid is pretty sparse, but I have information from Bobby on how to correct it. This Kid had really short hair to start with, double ponies was the only solution.
(right) Double ponies with an overlapping part. Not satisfied with the technique. Fortunately (technique-wise) or unfortunately (cornsilk is NOT my favorite), there are about a dozen more cornsilks in the shed waiting for care.

(left) Standard, simple ponytail - after MUCH conditioning and combing out.
(middle) Standard, simple braided ponytail; likewise with MUCH conditioning and combing - and it really wants to stand straight up like Pebbles.

(left and right) The curly pony solution: put it into a ponytail, THEN use the perm rollers and boiling water method. Simple, easy, fluffy. They look like the bows on birthday presents.
(middle) Perm rollers and boiling water without the ponytail, funky little braid to take care of the side pieces.

Any ideas for a Talking Kid's Cornsilk hair? It smells mildewy, and so far I haven't been able to get her to talk either!
