Stands for Softies

This is a pattern and tutorial to make stands for taller Cabbage Patch Kids.

Materials:
--> 8" cork-and-fiberboard mat (Home Depot, Woodstream Corporation, ~$2.50)
--> approximately 15" of 1/2" schedule 40 pvc pipe
--> 1/2" schedule 40 pvc "smooth" cap
--> screw (I think it's a drywall screw, and this one is much longer than needed
--> serious glue
--> wire hanger

Tools:
--> pliers (for bending wire)
--> bolt cutters (to cut the hanger)
--> screwdriver
--> drill

The pvc pipe needs to be a little shorter than armpit-to-soles of the Kid. I used 15" and it's a little too long, but it works.

Use the bolt cutters (or the pliers) to cut the hook off of the wire hanger.

Use the pliers to straighten the wire, then bend it in half.

Use the pliers to bend the wire at a 90-degree angle for each wing.

I used a jar to curve the wire to fit around my Kid's body.

Use the pliers to curl the sharp ends of the wings.

Drill a hole into the smooth cap and into the cork mat at least 3/4" from the edge.

Start the screw into the cork mat until it comes through the other side,

then put glue on the cap and screw it down to the cork mat. It's okay if the screw sticks out.

Slide the pvc pipe into the cap.

Slide the wing thing into the pipe.

The Kid should fit inside the wings - you might have to shape it a little more to make it stable.
