Rolled Curls 2 - Softy Hair - Tools

This is the tool I use for making "popcorns" for ponies.  It's

  • two pieces of something from the hardware store - many people use knitting needles, but I wanted to make REALLY LONG popcorn strings
  • some closed-cell foam sometimes used as packing material for cumbersome electronics, and
  • a little crate to connect everything together.
Making the popcorn strings involves wrapping yarn in a figure-8 and tying it off every ten or twelve wraps.

The problem is that the two poles do not stay the same distance apart as the wrapping is done.  With popcorn strings, a spacer works, but for rolled curls...no, this is not the tool for the job.

This is a loom used to make hairpin lace.  Much too flimsy.

This is what I ended up using.  It's a little cumbersome, but it works!  It's a piece of corner molding from the hardware store, each side of the corner is 1" outside, 7/8" inside.  I had to buy a six-foot piece, which is about four-and-a-half feet too long, but it was priced as "each."
